Extended Curriculum
At Hornchurch High School, our commitment to Excellence for All extends well beyond the classroom. We believe every student should leave us not only with strong academic results, but also as a confident, capable and well-rounded individual, ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Our Extended Curriculum plays a key role in this. It provides a wide range of opportunities that support students’ personal development, build character and broaden their experiences. These opportunities are open to all students and are carefully designed to complement their academic learning.
Key Areas of Our Extended Curriculum
Students take part in a variety of structured experiences throughout their time at school, including:
- Form Time – daily support from tutors, focusing on wellbeing, organisation and personal development
- Assemblies – regular opportunities to reflect on important themes such as community, respect, equality and current issues
- Guest Speakers – visits from a range of external speakers who share their experiences and provide insight into life beyond school
- Workshops – targeted sessions delivered by staff and external specialists on topics that support learning and personal growth
- Civics Lessons – helping students understand society, develop life skills and prepare for adult life
- RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) – supporting students to build safe, healthy and respectful relationships
- Careers Programme – a planned programme of guidance, employer encounters and further education opportunities to help students make informed choices about their future
- Drop Down Days – dedicated days focusing on key themes, allowing students to explore topics in greater depth
- Extra-Curricular Activities – a wide range of clubs, sports and creative opportunities beyond the classroom
- Leadership Programme – opportunities for students to take on responsibility and develop confidence and leadership skills
Together, these experiences ensure our students develop the skills, qualities and confidence they need to succeed, both during their time at school and in the future.
